Lots of rain and muddy weather, good news is Archie our baby has passed his
KENNEL CLUB GOOD CITIZENS BRONZE he is only just over 5 months. Well Done Archie xxx
October 2008
All three Leos went to the Club Champ Show on the 19th October. Boden got 3rd in Graduate Dog and Kara got 4th in Novice Bitch. Archie met up with his litter sister Bridie and his brother Troy. They are still all very alike real peas in a pod, it will be great to see how they all develope now they are growing fast. Archie is going to his training class every week, he is doing well for a young lad.
Merlin is looking good and i should have entered him into a couple of shows but with all the health worries and Dino i didn't. He is going to the LKA with Archie in Dec, so watch this space.....
Sept update
Merlin has had the results of his DNA test for JRD back, we are pleased to say he is CLEAR of any gene for this awful kidney disease.

What can i say very wet dogs and lots of wet paws.
Archie has started his obedience training and is growing fast. Kara and Boden are fed up getting wet all the time.
The kids have gone back to school and are up to their ears in home work again.... lol
Got some family from the hot dry country Australia visiting us at the moment which is great.
Archies first show is the club show but not for competition, he is way too young.. We may enter him in the LKA in December.

AUGUST 2008
It is a mixed bag this month of good news and not so good news.
Dino our young sheltie has had the results of his DNA test and it is confirmed that he has JRD. Juvenile Renal Dysplacia. Something that may be throughout this breed and the breeders don't test for yet. It is thought to affect the GSD's more than other breeds, but this may not be the case. www.dogenes.com
On a happier note, our little addition has arrived, ARCHIE. He is a 9 week old Leonberger from Helen Browne," Engelben". I shall put some photos on his page and you can see him grow. He has settled into the house with ease, the shelties keeping him in his place and the Leos being their usual self. So it is a busy month with schools holidays to deal with aswell.

JULY 2008
Boden got placed 3rd and Kara got placed 2nd at the South Wales Kennel Association Show.
This qualifies them both for Crufts in 2009. The mud was awful and Kara looked brown instead of her lovely cream. I wondered why i had bathed them both the day before. We managed to get them both cleaned off and brushed up before they got into the ring. The rain was never far away but when the sun came out it was lovely and warm. The ring wasn't very big but very wet one handler did go down sliding with the grass so full of water.
Our little boy Dino has had an ultra sound scan and we have found he has chronic kidney failure, very unusual in a young dog. He is eating well and still has a good quality of life we have him on anti biotics to stop any infection damaging what is left of his kidneys. We can't say how long he will go on for but fingers crossed we have some years with him to come.
JUNE 2008
As the cost of fuel goes through the roof, many of the shows that we may have attended goes down. Our son has finished the dreaded GCSE's so it is peace again!!!!!!!!!!
Just got to get through the summer holidays next....
Merlin has passed his Kennel Club Good Citizen GOLD, not bad for a youngster.
Dino has been under the vet as he was drinking too much so we are investigating this.
Fingers crossed for a nice summer and NO Floods this year.
MAY 2008
Boden was not placed at Birmingham National, the class was huge with 18 entries. The competition was tough there were some lovely dogs in the ring beside him.
The Judge Geoff Duffield did write,
"I was highly delighted not only by the big entry but by the fact that it was representative of the breed. In many classes, i was spoilt for choice. I felt that the overall presentation was excellent. I only found one dog with an untypical temperament. Very few were over weight, those that were it showed on movement. As the day progresed & humidity increased, some of the exhibits were clearly suffering, a shame as placings were consequently affected".
For Bodens class, Post Grad he wrote:
18, in class
"Lovely but difficult class to judge as such a varience of type. Some with quality heads failed slightly in movement and vice-versa, so it was a case of compromise. Those unplaced should not feel hard done by, competition was fierce".
Boden was pulled out to the final 8 but he wasn't placed..
Our next outing is Sothern Counties the begining of June.
Just keeping the Leos cool in the hot weather, lots of water play. But don't speak too soon here comes the rain..........
April 2008
Boden and Kara went to the Leonberger Club Show, Boden got 1st in Post Graduate Dog. While i was in the ring with him Kara's class was called, typical, so it was down to John to take her in. He did really well and Kara got a 4th place in Yearling Bitch. We had a great day and watched till the end. They both have WELKS at the end of the month so fingers crossed for then.
March 2008
Our day at Crufts started out early and the journey was an easy one. The dogs were all washed and groomed ready for the day ahead.
First in the ring was Merlin our shelties pup at only 11 months. He was just wonderful for me but it wasn't his day and he didn't get placed. He coped with the long day really well and was still going strong at home time.
Next in was Boden our Leo boy who stood really well and moved like a dream even had his tail in the correct position but sadly this wasn't his day either. Both the dogs were great all day and enjoyed meeting lots of people and we were happy to answer any questions about our guys that lots of the public asked.
Boden got a lot of attention around the sheltie ring, he looked more like a large rug most of the time as he lay out.
We got home 12 hours after leaving so it is fair to say we were all shattered, i was really proud of how our two boys had coped with such a long day and all the crowds.
Next show will be the Leonberger open show and WELKS over at Malvern at the end of April.
February 02 2008
Merlin has just passed his Kennel Club Good Citizens Bronze and Silver on the same day. A great achievement for our little guy at only 10 months, he is now working towards his Gold.
Boden is eating well again now so he should be back on form by Crufts in March.
Got my daughters wedding coming up in a weeks time so we have been very busy with that.
JANUARY 2008
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE
We are starting the year off with our first Champ Show at Manchester where we will be taking Merlin out. He is now 9 months old and it is all the extra practice he needs for his big day in March at Crufts.
He is taking his Good Citizens Bronze in Feb, he should pass this as he is well ready to.
Boden has gone off his food again as Kara is back in season, boys!!!!! We haven't decided which shows we are taking them to this year yet so watch this space. Crufts will be Bodens first outing in March, fingers crossed.
